'Chalk Walk' demo test

Hey! got a new art event starting July 1st; colouring a sidewalk in corner brook with chalk. did a test run with some members of Stockpile today for the poster. it went very well, and I don't think we'll need a lot of chalk either. Come out for the start of the event, July 1st, 10am, on Park Street, Main Street, and maybe even West Street. Always feel free to join in ^__^

2010 art thus far

Ok here's some photos! from top to bottom: finished product of my pottery after being placed in a campfire/ one of two art books I made for a show a fellow grad classmate is doing over in NS/ pictures from 'Perception of Deception'- paper mache sculptures, ink paintings, performance 'Unwrapped Thoughts', fabric piece/ my newest performance/installation piece, finished today.

I love this last one~ looks like I'm playing an odd musical instrument!
(check out the post before this one for a blurb on where all this stuff came from)
Hey! so the show in March went off without a hitch~ I got to do my performance piece 'Unwrapped Thoughts' (and ready to do another take on it, this time outside). However, I do have some finer points to be a critic about. First about Corner Brook; unless you are still in a spot or time where there are people who relate to what you are doing (as an example, art school) then you probably won't get as much of a response. I think that this kind of show succeeds really well if you're still in school or just finishing, because you will have that background support of your classmates. We did 'Perception of Deception' after a year had passed, and we didn't have that support. I do know that during the entire expanse of the show, many people (even some choirs from the music festival) saw it, and that is really good to know. This doesn't mean giving up on having shows, just trying another way.

I think that the public wants to see things that can involve them, more so than solo or paired shows that are more focused on self-promotion. Now, Corner Brook does have a strong base of art students, but it needs to have more artists that are outside of the school system doing art. I've recently joined a group called Stockpile (www.stockpile.wordpress.com) and it's made up of artists who do art during the summer. From what I've gathered, most of the art is performance/installation based, but there is a exhibition at the end of it in a gallery type setting where each member can have a piece displayed. My main project with Stockpile this summer is called 'River Walkers', it's a performance piece with a fellow artist who's trying to understand performance art. I'm very excited about this and I will be updating.

I finished a performance/installation piece today! I have no title as of yet, but I will be thinking of one before I bring it to a more public spot than my backyard. It's a piece made of paper rolls (from paper towels and toilet paper), all connected on a long string of yarn. The next place I want to install it will be a park, and I think what I'll do is walk down to the location with it, and wrap it around trees.

Future plans: July 1st I'll do an event where people can join in and help me colour a sidewalk in Corner Brook with chalk/ each block in the sidewalk will be a different colour. Anyone can help out with this, not just artists and it will be visible for people walking or driving by. July is the start of 'River Walkers', and I am still working on some ideas for August.
